Ballyhoo & My First Day

Yesterday I had my Boardwalk Resort Orientation, which is called "Ballyhoo!" I was in a group of 10 people and we sat in a classroom and learned about all that the Boardwalk has to offer. We also played trivia games and ate a lot of salt water taffy! We went on a tour of the Boardwalk which was lovely because it was so nice out. At the conclusion of our tour we saw a bride having her wedding pictures taken which was amazing to see. After the tour we played more trivia games, met leaders from our area, and got our costumes!

I had a 5:45 AM shift this morning so I got in bed at 7:40 last night and was asleep by 8. I am so thankful I did that, but I have 5:45 shifts most days for the next two weeks and there's no way I can do that every night.
I woke up at 3 this morning even though my alarm was set for 4. I got to the Boardwalk and met my trainer who is lovely. She took me on a brief tour around the resort to help get me acclimated and to help me help the guests. Throughout the day I interacted with multiple guests and did a lot of check-outs. I only did a few check-ins so I am still trying to master those. I feel pretty secure with check-outs though! I also did a lot of procedures that need to be learned on the job because they are so situation-specific that we couldn't cover it in a classroom. I got two breaks, one at 8:45 and one at 11:45. After my second break I did some online learning about the Disney Dining Plans. The day went pretty fast, but my feet were definitely store from standing for 8 hours. I go back tomorrow at 5:45 again!

I included a picture of my costume because I know a lot of people were curious. This is the costume I will be wearing as both Front Desk & Concierge. The only mirror I could find was in the bathroom, so I apologize for that!

Three Days Off?!

I had Saturday-Monday off which was much-needed. I laid around like a bum on Saturday with Macy. We laid out by the pool and went to the gym, but that's the most we did all day! On Sunday I slept in and then went resort hopping with a few friends from Disney University: Matt, Mickey & Tiffany. We went to the Grand Floridian, Polynesian and Contemporary before eating in Japan at Epcot then continuing on to the Boardwalk and Yacht & Beach Club. It was fun to see the different resorts and the costumes of people working front desk & concierge. We have the option to pick up open shifts at any resort, so it was nice to familiarize ourselves with some.

On Sunday Zach & I went to Blizzard Beach after his shift ended at noon. We went on Teamboat Springs and then spent a long time in the Lazy River but ultimately decided to leave because it was chilly & windy. We went grocery shopping and I made us a nice dinner instead:)
Afterwards I went to the Magic Kingdom with a few people from my Disney University classes. We rode a few rides including Pirates, Small World, Haunted Mansion, and Under the Sea. We also watched Wishes, the firework show at the end of the night.
